Descripción: Árbol que mide entre 10 a 25 m de altura, presenta ramas ferrugíneas. Corteza libera un látex gomoso blanco. Hojas son simples, alternas con envés ferrugíneo (marrón dorado). Inflorescencias axilares, flores color crema amarillento (CIGRAS, 2016).
Distribución:  Se piensa que es nativa de América central y naturalizada desde el sur de México hasta Panamá (CIGRAS, 2016).
Importancia: La fruta se consume sola, en postres, mermeladas, bebidas y ensaladas. También posee propiedades medicinales para aliviar la inflamación de laringitis y neumonía, se ha utilizado para tratar diabetes y afecciones intestinales. Las hojas se pueden usar como astringentes, contra el reumatismo, diabetes y cáncer. La corteza se utilizar para tratar la diarrea, hemorragias, disentería y gonorrea.  Las semillas pulverizadas pueden detener la diarrea y el sangrado, es diurético y sirve de remedio contra la disentería. El látex se puede aplicar sobre abscesos, además tiene propiedades antioxidantes, anti-inflamatorias, anticancerígenas, entre otras (CIGRAS, 2016).

General Information:
Description: Tree that measures between 10 and 25 mts high, with rusty branches. Bark releases a white gummy latex. Leaves are simple, alternate with rusty undersides (golden brown). Axillary inflorescences, yellowish cream-colored flowers (CIGRAS, 2016).
Distribution: It is thought to be native to Central America and naturalized from southern Mexico to Panama (CIGRAS, 2016).
Importance: The fruit is consumed alone, in desserts, jams, drinks and salads. It also has medicinal properties by relieving inflammation from laryngitis and pneumonia, and has been used to treat diabetes and intestinal conditions. The leaves can be used as astringents, against rheumatism, diabetes and cancer. The bark is used to treat diarrhea, hemorrhages, dysentery and gonorrhea. The powdered seeds can stop diarrhea and bleeding, it is a diuretic and serves as a remedy against dysentery. Latex can be applied to abscesses and has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties, among others (CIGRAS, 2016).
